Lectrosonics S1 RF-bias shotgun mic opens for pre-order

Lectrosonics has opened pre-orders for the S1, a supercardioid shotgun microphone first shown at NAB 2026. The price is $1,490, and shipping starts on December 2. The company aims it at location sound and studio work for film and TV, sports broadcasting and news.

Capsule and line tube

The S1 uses a true condenser capsule with RF biasing. Lectrosonics says this design resists humidity and other environmental factors on location. The line tube has full radial symmetry, so the mic behaves the same however it is turned. The company claims tight off-axis rejection and a consistent pattern across frequencies with minimal lobing.

The line tube is also said to add little colouration to the sound. The response is broadly flat, with a slight lift in the upper range to help dialogue clarity. The RF bias design is the reason Lectrosonics gives for its resistance to moisture during location work.

Specifications

  • Frequency response: 20 Hz to 20 kHz.
  • Sensitivity: above 26 dBV, plus or minus 1 dB.
  • Signal-to-noise ratio: above 84 dB.
  • Self-noise: 10 dB SPL, A-weighted.
  • Maximum SPL: 130 dB.
  • Power: 48V phantom, drawing less than 2 mA.
  • Length 21.5 cm, diameter 19 mm, weight 78 g, aircraft-grade aluminium body.

According to Lectrosonics, the S1 fits many common suspension mounts as well as other mounting hardware.

A joint project

Lectrosonics and RØDE both belong to the Freedman Group. Karl Winkler, EVP of product design and distribution at Lectrosonics, said the S1 brings together RØDE's capsule engineering and Lectrosonics' knowledge of film and TV customers.
