Motorola Signature 27 adds an action sensor to freeze motion

Fast-moving subjects are where phone cameras tend to fall apart. Motorola wants the Signature 27 to fix that with what it calls the world's first dedicated EVS action sensor in a smartphone.

Price, date and positioning

The Motorola Signature 27 goes on sale on November 16, 2026, starting at $1,599 or £1,299.99.

Digital Camera World says Motorola is placing the phone against the most expensive flagship camera phones. On paper the hardware looks promising, but the phone will have to deliver consistently excellent images to justify that price.

How the action sensor is meant to work

Motorola says the sensor is designed to capture fast subjects with greater clarity. It works with the phone's Action Shot feature, and the promise is frozen motion while the available light is used to the fullest.

The reviewer is curious about the real-world difference. Their reasoning: several earlier phones advertised action modes that never quite lived up to the billing.

Camera hardware

The main camera combines a 50MP Sony LYTIA L910 sensor, an f/1.6 aperture and optical image stabilization. LOFIC technology is added too. It is aimed at dynamic range and at keeping highlights from blowing out in tricky lighting, video included.

A 200MP periscope telephoto offers 3x optical zoom, and Motorola layers AI-assisted 100x Super Zoom Pro on top. The reviewer says that all that resolution is impressive, but whether AI can make usable images at 100x is still an open question. A 50MP ultrawide and a 50MP front camera complete the set.

For video, the phone records 8K at 30fps and 4K at 120fps for slow motion.

It supports Dolby Vision, and an AI-powered Video Enhancement Engine is meant to tune colour, contrast and dynamic range.

The camera system has already earned a DXOMARK Gold Label. The reviewer adds a caveat: DXOMARK largely measures technical achievement rather than photographic experience, and technical brilliance does not always mean better-looking photos.

The rest of the spec sheet

The phone runs Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. It has a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a claimed 12,000-nit peak brightness and a 7,000mAh battery with 90W wired charging. Audio is tuned by Bang & Olufsen, and Motorola promises seven years of OS upgrades.
