BOYA mini 2: a 5 g wireless mic gets AI noise cancellation

BOYA has introduced the mini 2, the second version of its ultra-compact wireless microphone. The transmitter still weighs 5 grams, and the company places it among the smallest and lightest wireless mics currently sold. The new model keeps that size while changing the audio path, the noise handling and the way the mic is configured.

What changes from the first mini

The biggest technical step is resolution. The original mini recorded 16-bit audio; the mini 2 moves to 24-bit at 48 kHz, which BOYA says gives more tonal detail and wider dynamic range.

It is also the first mic in the mini line to use the company's own AI noise reduction. BOYA calls the system the BOYA Intelligence Deep Neural Algorithm Network. According to the maker, the model was trained on more than 700,000 recordings of real-world noise and over 20,000 hours of data, and it adjusts to the environment, whether the mic is used indoors or on a loud street.

Two protections against clipping have been added:

  • an automatic limiter that catches sudden peaks;
  • a backup safety track recorded 12 dB lower than the main one.

Finish, app and price

The mini 2 comes in two finishes. Lunar Silver is a new vacuum-plated option, while Matte Black continues as the low-key choice. Settings are handled in the BOYA Central app, where users can adjust gain, EQ and noise cancellation and install firmware updates.

BOYA lists vlogging, mobile filmmaking, interviews, travel content and livestreaming as target uses. The company presents the mini 2 as following the BOYAMIC 2, which debuted the company's top-tier AI noise cancellation, and the BOYA Magic, a four-in-one convertible microphone.

The mini 2 is sold worldwide through authorized retailers, distributors and BOYA's own website, with pricing starting at $30.
