Zoom TCA-1 adds a timecode generator to Zoom recorders

Zoom has introduced the TCA-1, an adapter that turns compatible Zoom recorders into timecode-capable devices. The price is $49.99, with sales starting in late April. Zoom describes it as a precision timecode generator built for syncing audio with video.

How it connects

The TCA-1 plugs straight into the Remote port of a Zoom recorder. Zoom lists these models as compatible:

  • H6studio;
  • H5studio;
  • H6essential;
  • H4essential;
  • H2essential.

The F3 field recorder is supported as well.

Accuracy

Inside is a temperature-compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO). Zoom says the clock stays within 0.5 frames of accuracy over 24 hours. The aim is to keep audio and video aligned automatically, so editors do not have to match waveforms or correct drift by hand.

Working with other gear

A 3.5mm TRS jack works as both timecode input and output. Through it the recorder can sync with cameras, external timecode generators and slates. Timecode systems from Tentacle Sync and Deity are named among those it works with.

The adapter is pitched as a post-production time saver. When the recorder and the camera share the same timecode, sound files line up with the video timeline on their own. According to the announcement, this removes the need to compare waveforms or fix drift between devices, shortening turnaround and lowering the risk of sync mistakes. Zoom presented the TCA-1 on April 24, 2026.

Before the TCA-1, Zoom recorders needed the BTA-1 Bluetooth adapter for timecode. The new adapter replaces that route with a direct wired connection and its own clock.
