Sennheiser Spectera 1.4 Adds Command Button for Mute and Talkback

Sennheiser has released firmware version 1.4 for Spectera, its bidirectional wideband wireless system, together with a new accessory called the Command Button. The update, announced in Wedemark on 15 July 2026, targets push-to-talk and push-to-mute workflows in live sound, broadcast and houses of worship.

The Command Button

The button connects between the SEK bodypack and the microphone and has an integrated clip for attaching it to clothing. It gives the presenter or performer direct control over routing that has been set up in advance in the wireless system. Two functions are available:

  • Mute, typically used as a cough button, when a speaker is offstage, or during moments in a service that the congregation should not hear.
  • Talkback, which opens a second channel to production staff or engineers that the audience does not hear.

The button can be configured as a latched or momentary switch. Product manager Bernd Neubauer described the talkback mode as a way for hosts and performers to speak to the crew without the audience listening. The accessory can also be used with the SK 9000 and SK 6000, Sennheiser's digital narrowband bodypack transmitters, as their firmware handles mute and talkback.

Monitoring and software control

Firmware 1.4 lets operators programme the audio outputs of the Base Station alongside the Command Button. The Spectera WebUI now shows received signal strength (RSSI), link quality (LQI), battery levels, interference status, and peak and RMS audio levels for microphones and in-ear monitors.

Spectera is now fully integrated in SoundBase, a brand-agnostic RF planning application. The free SoundBase SE version can manage large Spectera installations, while the PRO version is aimed at setups mixing several manufacturers. Sennheiser also said Spectera is now certified almost everywhere, with regulatory processes still open only in mainland China, South Korea and Japan.
