Apple ships HomeView Software 27.2 ahead of the November 13 launch
Apple released HomeView Software 27.2 on October 30. It is the software that runs on the HomeView, which is set to go on sale on November 13. The device was announced earlier in October, and the early release gives a first look at several things that had not been described before.
The update includes 20 default wallpapers in a range of colors. Users will likely be able to set their own photo as a wallpaper as well. The HomeView works with faces, and the wallpapers may appear on the Home Screen.
Faces, setup and modes
Guilherme Rambo shared an image of the face editing screen, writing that he "had to virtualize a HomeView" to get it. On that screen, users pick the design they want for the HomeView's Lock Screen. Those who choose the Snoopy face get a set of Snoopy animations, which Aaron, who posts as @aaronp613, also shared as videos.
At startup the device shows the familiar "Hello" text. A setup animation that Aaron found in the software shows Control Center. Light Mode and Dark Mode are included, and the HomeView can switch between them automatically based on the time of day.
A different launcher
The HomeView does not use SpringBoard, the launcher found on iOS. It has a new one called BreadBoard, and the process behind its Control Center interface is named CupBoard.
The update also contains a hidden graphic labeled HomeView Software 26. According to MacRumors, it adds to the evidence that Apple wanted to release the device earlier but had to wait for Siri AI. Apple also appears to have tested the interface on a sixth-generation iPad mini before launch.
The HomeView costs $299 and can be pre-ordered on Apple's website. It will go on sale alongside the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K on November 13.
