Solid State Logic SSL 1: a one-preamp USB-C interface at $159.99

Solid State Logic has launched the SSL 1, a small USB audio interface with a single microphone preamp. It is now the lowest-priced model in the company's interface line, which began with the SSL 2 and 2+ in 2020, grew with the SSL 12 in 2022 and got MKII versions of the SSL 2 models in 2024. The company announced it in New York on May 28, 2026, describing it as a two-channel USB interface that works as soon as it is plugged in. The SSL 1 is available now at an MSRP of $159.99.

Who it is for

SSL aims the interface at musicians, content creators, new engineers and professionals who need something simple for mobile work. It connects over USB-C to Mac and Windows computers and to phones and tablets that support USB Audio Class 2.0. These devices can also power it. It can also take separate 5V power, for example from a phone charger or a power bank.

Inputs and conversion

The SSL 1 has two inputs and two outputs. Its converters work at 32-bit and 192 kHz. The input section is split into two channels:

  • channel 1 has an XLR input with +48V phantom power;
  • channel 2 has a dedicated instrument and line input.

A high-pass filter and SSL's Legacy 4K analogue enhancement are included.

Streaming and monitoring

For live streamers, the interface offers three stereo loopback channels to capture audio playing on the connected device. Monitoring is handled by a headphone output and balanced monitor outputs. A Mix button blends low-latency input monitoring with playback from the computer.
