Sennheiser Brings Back the MD 9235 Wireless Capsule
Sennheiser announced on 3 March 2026 that production of the MD 9235, a microphone head for its wireless handhelds, has resumed. The cardioid dynamic capsule had been retired in 2020, when the MM 435 and the high-rejection MM 445 heads replaced it.
Why it returned
Product manager Sebastian Schmitz explained that the newer heads found their own users, but requests for the MD 9235 kept arriving years after it was dropped. The development and manufacturing teams looked at how to restart it, and samples were tested by several touring sound engineers before the decision was made. Engineers valued the head for staying clear at high stage volume and for rejecting crosstalk, including when the singer stands in front of the PA.
Design
The capsule is built to reproduce vocals while rejecting sound from the sides and rear. Sennheiser targets it at performers who move around a lot and often end up in front of the main speakers. Its coil is made of a light aluminium-copper wire, which the company says moves faster than conventional coils and so keeps detail in difficult conditions.
