Saramonic K9 XTX Plug-On UHF Transmitter Priced at $299

Saramonic has announced the K9 XTX, a plug-on transmitter that turns a wired XLR microphone into part of its K9 digital UHF wireless system. It is designed for solo operators, small crews and sound recordists, and for anyone who wants to use a handheld or shotgun microphone wirelessly.

Frequency and power

The transmitter works in the 550 to 960 MHz UHF band. Its frequency settings are coordinated by region using GPS-based updates, intended to simplify use in different countries. Saramonic says the wideband UHF platform gives steadier long-range performance than typical 2.4 GHz systems. RF output can be adjusted up to 100 mW, and Saramonic quotes an operating range of 150 m (492 feet).

Phantom power is selectable at 3V, 5V, 12V, 24V or 48V, so the XTX can feed shotgun mics, boom setups, handheld interview microphones, field recorders and other line-level sources. The XLR connector locks in place. The K9 XTX plugs directly into the K9 digital UHF system and can be managed alongside its other components.

Recording and control

  • 32-bit float backup recording to 64GB of internal storage, covering level spikes and RF dropouts
  • 130 dB dynamic range
  • Wired and wireless timecode for multi-camera syncing
  • A large colour display
  • About 7 hours on two AA batteries, or external USB-C power
  • IP66 protection with an optional waterproof housing

The Saramonic System App can manage up to 48 devices remotely, group systems, update firmware, switch units to sleep mode and coordinate frequencies. The antenna is mounted externally. The K9 XTX costs $299 on its own, and the K9 XTX Kit is $749.
