Samsung's Android XR glasses open pre-orders on November 12
The release date of Samsung's Android XR glasses has been a moving target. A retail partner has now pinned down the first step: pre-orders for Intelligent Eyewear start on November 12.
Glasses that sit beside a phone
Intelligent Eyewear pairs Qualcomm's Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 with frames designed by Samsung together with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster. Samsung built it to work in tandem with a Galaxy phone, not to replace one.
Android Central went hands-on with the glasses and found it evident that Samsung wants to change public opinion.
A release window that kept shifting
Rumours first pointed to November. Three days before the call, new reports named mid-December, a month later.
The same reports said the glasses might launch only in South Korea and the US. Reports say the narrow launch could be a deliberate choice, a way to watch how buyers respond.
Warby Parker's comments make the later date look more likely. Its CEO specifically mentioned this holiday season.
What Warby Parker said on November 5
The company held its third-quarter earnings call that day and covered the results in a press release. It stated that pre-orders would start "in one week", which lands on November 12.
Those pre-orders are for the company's "first collection". Warby Parker says it looks forward to delivering customer orders during the holiday season.
CEO Dave Gilboa and co-founder and co-CEO Neil Blumenthal both used the words "first collection". Android Central reads that as a sign the partnership with Samsung could go another round, perhaps with a new design. It stresses that this is speculation for now.
