RØDECaster Video 1.4 firmware adds 4K Capture Mode and Sync

RØDE has released firmware 1.4 for the three consoles in its video line, the RØDECaster Video, the Video S and the Video Core. The update is free. It adds new operating modes for multi-camera capture, brings RØDECaster Sync to every console in the family and adds several smaller features.

Two new capture modes

Besides the standard switching mode, the consoles now have a 4K Capture Mode. In it, each console accepts several UHD (3840×2160) HDMI feeds at 30 fps: four on the RØDECaster Video and three on the Video S and Video Core. Each feed is sent out as its own NDI stream, which applications such as OBS and eCamm Live can pick up from the network. At the same time, each input can be written separately to an external SSD as a 4K file encoded in H.264 or H.265.

A second new mode, Full HD Capture Mode, works the same way at 1080p and 60 fps.

In both capture modes, many switching, scene, keying and media functions are reduced or simplified. They remain fully available in the default FHD Switching Mode. The full audio mixer keeps running in capture modes, and every NDI output can carry its own audio mix.

RØDECaster Sync for every console

RØDECaster Sync first appeared on the Video Core. Version 1.4 extends it to the RØDECaster Video and Video S. Sync connects a RØDECaster Pro II or Duo to a video console over a single USB-C cable. After that:

• the audio console's touchscreen, SMART pads, faders and mute and listen buttons control both audio and video;
• a new Video SMART Pad type handles switching, scenes, media, overlays and auto-switching;
• both units share one nine-channel mixer that can use inputs from either device;
• recording, channel processing and output routing are shared, and everything is recorded to the video console's drive.

Other additions

The update also brings:

• OTIO timeline export for Adobe Premiere Pro, next to the DaVinci Resolve EDL export added in version 1.3;
• audio input from compatible USB webcams;
• keyboard shortcuts in the RØDECaster App's Scene Builder.
