AEA Nuvo Flight: three active ribbon microphones in one case

AEA has released the Nuvo Flight, a kit that brings together three different microphones from its Nuvo range for studio and live use. The Nuvo series combines ribbon elements with active electronics, which give a higher output level, and uses compact, durable housings.

All three microphones in the kit run on phantom power, which AEA says makes them compatible with a wide range of preamps. They are also designed to handle high sound pressure levels. The three microphones were picked from the Nuvo series to contrast with each other: their recommended working distances run from about one inch to more than twenty feet. The three models are tuned for different distances from the source, so together they cover close, medium and distant placement with one set of microphones.

The three microphones

  • N22 (near field). Made for close placement from 1 to 18 inches, with a reduced proximity effect and extended top end. Typical uses are vocals, guitar amplifiers and percussion.
  • N13 (mid field). One of the newer Nuvo models, with a 1.2-micron ribbon for faster transient response. It is aimed at sources at a moderate distance, for example drum overheads, strings and acoustic instruments.
  • N8 (far field). Designed to capture the sound of the room from 12 inches to more than 20 feet away while keeping low and high frequencies. It is used for room miking, ensembles and orchestras.

Package and price

The three microphones are delivered in a rugged custom flight case. The Nuvo Flight kit is available now for $3,399.
