Zoom LiveTrak L6max: a 12-channel mixer, recorder and interface
Zoom has released the LiveTrak L6max, a bigger model next to the compact LiveTrak L6. Like the L6, it combines a mixer, a recorder and an audio interface with effects in one portable unit. Its intended users include content creators, streamers, live musicians and people who record at home. The L6max keeps the portable format of the original and adds more inputs. It is available now.
Channel layout
The L6max has 12 channels in total. They are split as follows:
- four mono channels with combo mic preamps, two of which offer a Hi-Z mode for instruments;
- four stereo channels, each with a -20 dB pad switch; two of them can also run in dual-mono mode.
A feature found only on the L6max is an assignable sub mix with its own output. It is separate from the main mix and from the two aux sends. Individual channels can be routed to it, which allows an extra monitor mix. For streaming, this means the person at the mixer can listen to a balance that differs from what the audience hears.
Recording and USB
The mixer records 14 tracks to a microSD card: all 12 inputs plus the stereo mix. The resolution is up to 32-bit at 48 kHz. Cards of up to 1 TB are supported and are not included. Over USB the L6max works as a 14x4 audio interface for a computer, so it can also serve as the core of a mobile recording setup built around a laptop.
Other built-in tools include effects, bus compression and sound pads that can loop. Settings can also be adjusted from the L6 editor app.
Price
The Zoom LiveTrak L6max lists at $444, £397 or €449. It is on sale through retailers such as Thomann.
