Sony a7 V firmware 2.00 enables 32-bit float audio via XLR-A4
Version 2.00 of the a7 V firmware is now out. It adds a high-resolution audio mode, focus changes and network workflow options, improves general operational stability and removes one way of updating lenses.
32-bit float only with the adapter
The camera can now record 96 kHz/32-bit float audio, but only when the XLR-A4 adapter is attached to the Multi Interface Shoe. The body does not gain 32-bit float capture by itself. The same adapter provides this mode on the Alpha 7R VI. The XLR-A4 is sold separately for $778.
The firmware also fixes a problem where video recording could fail with the ECM-M1 shotgun microphone attached.
Focus and playback
- Preset Focus now works with lenses without power zoom, although some zoom lenses remain unsupported.
- Focal length is shown to one decimal place.
- Images can be deleted and rated on both card slots at once.
- Folder and file names can be shown during playback.
FTP and authenticity tools
Users can cancel a scheduled FTP transfer of selected images. Transfer & Tagging gains options to schedule transfers of protected files, protect images sent via FTP and set up an SFTP server. Movies now support Write Digital Signature under Sony's Camera Authenticity Solution. Scan and Tag, Photo Cropping and Volume Photography Commands are enabled under a paid Volume Photography License due from late May 2026.
Lens updates move to a computer
From version 2.00, lens firmware can no longer be updated through the camera from a memory card. It must be done with Sony's Windows or macOS tool. Body firmware can still be installed from a card or through the Creators App.
Firmware 2.00 is a free download from Sony's support pages.
