RØDE LPA1 holds the mic below the camera line
RØDE has released the LPA1, a low-profile studio arm that clamps to a desk. Its job is to hold the microphone low enough to stay out of the camera's view. The target uses are video podcasts, live streams and other setups where an overhead boom arm would appear in the shot.
Load and microphones
The LPA1 carries up to 2 kg (4.4 lb). That is the highest payload of any RØDE studio arm. It holds both end-address and side-address microphones. RØDE names the PodMic, PodMic USB, Procaster and Broadcaster dynamic models and the NT1 series of large-diaphragm condensers. The arm is made entirely of metal.
Movement and size
Key dimensions and ranges:
- horizontal reach of 750 mm (29.5 in);
- tilt of 90° up and 60° down;
- 360° rotation and a ball mount at the head;
- folded size of 367 mm (14.4 in) long and 150 mm (5.9 in) high;
- up to 525 mm above the desk surface or 200 mm below it when extended;
- 470 mm in height when extended;
- a width of 75 mm and a weight of 1,650 g (3.64 lb).
Because the head can sit above or below desk level, the microphone can be placed under the frame of a camera.
Mounting and cables
The arm comes with a clamp for desks up to 70 mm (2.76 in) thick. No drilling is needed. Cable management is built into the arm: an XLR or USB cable runs along its length and is held by four supplied clips. The arm accepts 1/4 UNC, 3/8 UNC and 5/8 UNS threads, which means small cameras, lights and accessories can also be mounted within the 2 kg limit.
Price
The LPA1 is available now in black for $129. A white version will follow later.
