Pebble Index 01: a $75 ring that records notes at a button press
Eric Migicovsky, who revived the Pebble smartwatch brand, is adding a ring to his company's lineup. The Index 01 is named after the finger it is meant for. It records quick voice notes and reminders, and only while the wearer presses and holds a button on its side. Recording cannot be started and then left running hands-free.
How it handles audio
A single recording can last up to five minutes. Clips are kept in the ring's small memory when the phone is out of Bluetooth range and synced later. Speech-to-text and AI processing run locally on the phone in the open-source Pebble app, so notes stay on the device rather than in the cloud. The raw audio is also kept in case noise garbles the transcript. More than 100 languages are supported, and a recorded note can appear on a paired smartwatch screen for checking.
Migicovsky says the ring is not an assistant, fitness tracker or sleep monitor. He described the ring as external memory for his brain.
Battery and build
The battery is not rechargeable. It covers roughly 12 to 14 hours of recording in total. At the founder's own pace of 10 to 20 notes a day, each three to six seconds long, that works out to about two years. A spent ring can be sent back for recycling. The stainless-steel ring is water-resistant to 1 metre: fine for showers or rain, but not for swimming.
Software and extras
- The Pebble app handles notes and reminders and can link to the phone's calendar or apps such as Notion.
- The button can be programmed for single or double presses, for example to control music or a phone camera shutter.
- Messages can be sent through Beeper, and custom voice actions can be added via MCP.
Price and availability
Preorders cost $75 until March 2026, after which the price rises to $99. There is no subscription. Colour options are silver, polished gold and matte black; the ring is offered in eight sizes from 6 to 13, and works with iOS and Android. Core Devices is a self-funded team of five that has already shipped the Pebble 2 Duo and is preparing the Pebble Time 2.
