Audix DP7X drum mic package replaces the DP7 for $1,299

Audix announced the DP7X on 4 August 2026 in Wilsonville, Oregon, as the next generation of its drum microphone bundle, following the pattern of individual microphones that are updated over several models. It is a professional drum microphone package that succeeds the company's seven-piece DP7 and is designed for a standard five-piece drum kit.

The D6X kick drum microphone

The main change is a new kick drum microphone: the dynamic D6X takes over from the original D6. It uses Audix's VLM (Very Low Mass) diaphragm and handles up to 144 dB SPL without distortion. A recessed switch, operated without tools, selects one of three voicings:

  • Deep keeps the pre-shaped sound of the D6.
  • Balanced gives a more traditional kick sound focused on the mids and upper mids.
  • Natural has a modified high-frequency roll-off and a fuller midrange.

Other microphones and hardware

The nylon case holds six more microphones:

  • i5 dynamic cardioid for snare;
  • two D2 rack tom microphones with VLM Type B technology;
  • D4 hypercardioid dynamic for floor tom with VLM Type D technology;
  • two ADX51 cardioid overhead condensers with 14 mm gold-sputtered diaphragms.

Mounting hardware includes four DVice spring-loaded rim clamps, three DClip heavy-duty clips, one MC1 nylon clip, plus a pair of WS81C foam windscreens for the overheads.

Compared with the previous DP7, the package keeps the seven-microphone layout for kick, snare, three toms and a pair of overheads, and its most notable change is the switchable kick drum microphone.

Audix lists the DP7X at $1,299 MSRP, and it is already shipping.
