Audeze Maxwell 2 debuts at CES 2026 with a 48kHz headset mic

Audeze introduced the Maxwell 2, the second generation of its wireless gaming headset for Xbox, PC and PlayStation, at CES 2026, held in Las Vegas from January 6 to 9. The headset went on sale straight away at $349, with a $329 version for buyers who do not need Xbox Wireless support.

Microphone upgrades

For voice chat, the Maxwell 2 doubles the microphone bandwidth of the first model, to 48kHz. It also adds a new AI-based background noise cancellation feature that Audeze calls FILTER, intended to suppress sounds around the player while keeping the voice clear.

Drivers, design and connectivity

The headset keeps large 90mm planar magnetic drivers, the technology Audeze is known for. Planar magnetic drivers are bigger, heavier and more costly to make than the dynamic drivers found in most headphones, and they are valued for precision and fast response. The Maxwell 2 adds Audeze's SLAM technology, previously used in the LCD-S20, which is meant to give it fuller, deeper bass than the first Maxwell.

The physical design has been reworked. The Maxwell 2 is slimmer and lighter than its predecessor, has a more breathable suspension strap, and uses magnetically attached earcups that can be swapped easily. A reviewer who covered the launch called the redesign the most obvious improvement and said the new headset is more comfortable.

Battery life stays at a rated 80 hours. The headset connects over 2.4GHz wireless to Windows PCs, Xbox consoles and PlayStation, and over Bluetooth to the Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. A new Audeze app provides controls and adjustments on any of these platforms.

The original Maxwell had been on a major outlet's list of top Xbox headsets for more than two years. Audeze also plans special-edition versions of the Maxwell 2, though no details or dates were given at launch.
