Tubi greenlights ten TikTok-star shows from its Creatorverse Incubator
Tubi has revealed the first slate of shows from its Creatorverse Incubator. The ten programs are led by 12 notable TikTokers, who get top billing.
Tubi announced its plan to launch originals with some of TikTok's biggest stars earlier this year, seven months ago. Creatorverse Incubator is the name Tubi gave to a partnership with TikTok built around long-form content. Tubi is a Fox-owned platform known for its ad-supported video on-demand model.
What is on the slate
The formats, genres and tones vary. Lynnell Jones Jr.'s Feeling Super is an animated superhero comedy. Kai Cameron's Kai Picks the Guy is a gender-bending dating show. Allie Tran's Scare Tours is a film-inspired horror show. Marc Sebastian's A Great Australian Gay Sidequest is a travelogue set Down Under.
TikTok helped Tubi find creators ready to build their own long-form shows. It is expected to promote the resulting originals through its Spotlight product.
TikTok Global Head of Entertainment and Microseries Dawn Yang highlighted the "unique perspectives" that will get serial opportunities through the incubator.
The creators we're working with have built a following, a point of view, and a body of work that people come back for.
That was Kudzi Chikumbu, Tubi's VP of Creator Partnerships and a former TikTok executive. He added that the incubator is where Tubi comes in as a partner, giving creators the creative freedom to grow what they have started. In his words, the company is proud to support their first TV shows, ambitious work they may not otherwise be able to make.
The slate also targets categories that have drawn steady audiences on Tubi.
Horror, young adult content and comedy recur in Tubi's earlier creator initiatives, and the platform is doubling down on them.
Release dates and Fox's wider creator push
Release dates for the Creatorverse shows have not been revealed. Fox is also looking for other ways to connect with rising influencers. Fox-affiliated Red Seat Ventures recently announced a play aimed at the newsletter industry.
