Sennheiser Profile Wireless Gains Bluetooth in Firmware 5.0.0

Sennheiser has released firmware version 5.0.0 for Profile Wireless, its all-in-one wireless microphone system. The free update adds Bluetooth to both the one-channel and two-channel sets. Once installed, the clip-on microphone can pair directly with a smartphone, laptop or tablet, so the receiver no longer has to sit between the mic and the device.

Two Bluetooth modes

Depending on what the connected device supports, the clip-on mic uses either Bluetooth LE Audio with the LC3 codec or Bluetooth Classic. Product manager Hendrik Millauer explained that removing the receiver leaves the phone's connector free for other uses and keeps the setup as small as possible.

Sennheiser is clear about the trade-offs between the options:

  • With the receiver: Millauer called it a must for the highest audio quality.
  • LE Audio (LC3): good quality and latency for recordings where convenience and size come first.
  • Bluetooth Classic: the widest compatibility with phones and laptops, at the cost of some quality compared with LE Audio, which Millauer described as the future-proof option.

External lavaliers still supported

The clip-on unit can still take an external lavalier microphone, which turns it into a small transmitter for a less visible setup. When an external mic is plugged in, the built-in microphone is switched off automatically.

Firmware 5.0.0 is available from the Profile Wireless product page, and the online manual now includes a section on the Bluetooth mode. Sennheiser announced the update in April 2026.
