RØDECaster Video Core brings RØDECaster Sync and EDL export
RØDE has added the RØDECaster Video Core to its family of video production consoles. It was first shown at CES in January. The Video Core is priced at $599, is open for pre-order and will ship worldwide. Like other RØDECaster products, it is designed and made in Sydney, Australia.
A console without controls
The Video Core is built as a "headless" variant of the RØDECaster Video S. It has no touchscreen, no physical buttons and no built-in wireless receivers. All operation goes through the free RØDECaster App on a computer or tablet. The app handles video switching, multi-camera layouts in the scene builder, audio mixing, media playback, keying, transitions and graphics.
Inside is the same octa-core processor as in the full-size RØDECaster Video. It can switch among as many as four video sources and five scenes. Connections include:
- three 1080p HDMI inputs with automatic frame rate conversion;
- one configurable HDMI output;
- two USB-C ports;
- two Neutrik combo jacks with Revolution preamps;
- Ethernet with up to four NDI inputs and one NDI output, including PTZ camera control.
Nine stereo channels get APHEX processing. Auto-switching cuts between cameras based on which audio input is active. The Video Core streams to YouTube, Twitch and other platforms over Ethernet, records ISO files of every source to a USB drive or SSD and can send video to a computer over UVC. The RØDE Capture app turns an iPhone into a dual-camera wireless source.
RØDECaster Sync
RØDECaster Sync is a new feature that joins the Video Core with a RØDECaster Pro II or RØDECaster Duo through one USB-C cable. The two units then work as one production hub with shared mixing and recording. Owners of these audio consoles can add video without replacing their existing hardware.
Firmware for the whole range
RØDE also released firmware updates for the RØDECaster Video range. They add:
- EDL timeline export for DaVinci Resolve, keeping edit structure, timing and clip order;
- compressed UVC input with MJPEG, which widens webcam support;
- import of media in non-standard resolutions and aspect ratios, such as vertical or square, with automatic scaling.
The RØDECaster Duo received its own update. Its audio channel count goes from seven to nine, matching the Pro II, and wireless inputs no longer take the place of combo inputs, so XLR microphones and wireless receivers can be used at once. The updates are available through the RØDECaster App.
