Godox Alink Wireless Microphone System Starts at $39

Godox has announced Alink, a compact wireless microphone system that works with cameras, smartphones and computers. It transmits over 2.4 GHz with frequency hopping and records at 48kHz/24-bit. Godox quotes a line-of-sight range of up to 300 m (984 feet).

Connections and recording modes

The receiver connects to cameras through a standard 3.5mm output. Owners of Sony and Canon bodies can instead use an optional digital hot shoe adapter that removes the need for a cable. With a phone, the receiver passes charging through, and recorded clips can be played back on the phone's speaker without unplugging it. The transmitters pair automatically when switched on.

Two recording modes are available. Mono merges both transmitters into one track, and stereo puts each on its own left or right channel. Noise reduction has ten levels, including Deep, Balanced and Light Denoise presets, set through the Godox Mic app, which is only available for Android. An automatic limiter helps prevent clipping.

Specifications and pricing

  • Omnidirectional capsule, 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response
  • Signal-to-noise ratio above 65 dB, maximum SPL 115 dB
  • Transmitter weight 6 g, receiver weight 13 g
  • Up to 10 hours per transmitter, about 30 hours with the charging case
  • Operating range of -10 to 50 degrees Celsius

The Alink design does not seem to include internal backup recording. Alink comes in two kits: Kit 1 with one transmitter and one receiver at a suggested $39, and Kit 2 with two transmitters and one receiver at $69. Prices may differ by region because of local taxes.
