DPA 4099 Core+: instrument mic gains 10 dB of dynamic range
DPA Microphones announced that the 4099 instrument microphone is the next model to receive its Core+ technology, which the company first presented at NAMM 2025. The 4099 Core+ was scheduled to be shown at NAMM 2026.
What changes in the microphone
According to DPA, the redesign targets non-linear behaviour that can arise in the membrane and in the electronics. The company says this reduces distortion and makes the sound more transparent. In numbers, the 4099 Core+ offers about 10 dB more dynamic range than the original 4099 and starts clipping at a higher level.
As with other Core+ models, the updated microphone uses DPA's MicroLock connector. It also gets a revised shockmount and better wind protection.
New mounting system
A large part of the announcement concerns mounting hardware for different instruments:
- G-Mount. A new gooseneck mount with a two-step locking mechanism for positioning with one hand. DPA says it isolates vibration better and still works with many existing DPA clips.
- Refined clips. Several existing clips, including those for cello, piano and microphone stands, were reworked for easier handling and better acoustic results.
- XLR-MOUNT. A new accessory for attaching 19 mm pencil microphones or XLR adapters.
Helga Volha Somava, Product Management Director at DPA, said the 4099 Core+ keeps the familiar tonal character of the original while adding new technology for studio and live work.
At the time of the announcement DPA had not confirmed the price or the release date of the 4099 Core+.
